Destitute children of people who died of COVID-19 to be provided free education in Chhattisgarh

Raipur (the states. news) As per the guidelines of Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel, ‘Chhattisgarh Mahtari Dular Scheme 2021’ would be launched by Chhattisgarh Government to provide free school education as well as scholarship to the destitute children of the people who died of COVID-19. School Education Department has issued notification for implementation of the scheme.

According to the notification issued, the scheme will be implemented by School Education Department. Under the scheme, students taking admission in the eligible schools will be given scholarship of Rs. 500 per month for class 1st to 8th and Rs. 1000 per month for class 9th to 12th. It is noteworthy that in the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister on May 18th, decision regarding implementation of Mahtari Dular Yojana was taken.

All the District Collectors have been notified regarding the implementation of Mahtari Dular Yojana by School Education Department. Collectors have been directed to coordinate with School Education Department, Health Department and Social Welfare Department to ensure that the children in need get the benefit of the scheme. Chhattisgarh Mahtari Dular Yojana 2021 will be implemented from academic session 2021-22. Destitute children of domicile families in Chhattisgarh would be benefitted under the scheme. As per the eligibility criteria of the scheme, children who have lost the earning parent or both the parents to COVID-19 would be benefitted under the scheme. Besides, destitute children who are eligible for school education and they do not have an adult earning member in the family, facing difficulty to make their both ends meet, such children would also be helped under the scheme. 

Children found eligible under the scheme will be provided free education in government schools of the state.  Children found eligible under the scheme will be given priority for admission in Swami Atmanand English Medium School run by the state government. The entire expenditure of their education will be borne by the state government. Besides, children will also be provided scholarship under the scheme. Children whose earning parents have died will be provided free education. Eligible students will be given incentives for higher education after schooling. Talented students will be provided training, coaching facilities for admission into professional courses.

On receiving information about the destitute children from any source, Collector will pass on the information to District Education Officer for further action. Besides, students will be able to apply directly to the District Education Officer either by themselves or through a guardian. A committee under the chairmanship of the District Education Officer will be constituted to examine the applications received. The committee would consist of one officer each from Health Department and Social Welfare Department. Recommendations of the committee would be approved by District Collector. For the maintenance of records, District Education Officer will main the register and the plan will be reviewed from time to time by District Collector. (media saheb.com)
