Chhattisgarh Has Repeatedly Given New Direction to Hindi Literature Over the Last 200 Years, Shri Vinod Kumar Shukla Among Them: Dr. Sushil Kumar Trivedi

Raipur (thestates.news) | On the opening day of the Raipur Literature Festival, organised by the Public Relations Department at Purkhouti Muktangan in Nava Raipur, eminent litterateur late Shri Vinod Kumar Shukla was remembered with deep respect for his life and literary contributions. A panel discussion on the theme ‘Remembering Late Vinod Kumar Shukla: Windows of Literature’ brought together voices from literature, administration, journalism, and cinema. The session unfolded into an emotionally resonant conversation on Shri Shukla’s personality and creative legacy. Sharing personal memories and experiences, the speakers described his writing as a rare blend of human sensitivity and original expression.

The first speaker, retired Indian Administrative Service officer and litterateur Dr. Sushil Kumar Trivedi, said he had been closely associated with Shri Vinod Kumar Shukla since 1973. He stated that Chhattisgarh has repeatedly offered new directions to Hindi literature over the last 200 years, and that Shri Shukla stood firmly in this tradition. Referring to a long literary lineage, Dr. Trivedi named Thakur Jagmohan Singh, Madhavrao Sapre, Padumlal Punnalal Bakshi, Mukutdhar Pandey, and Shri Vinod Kumar Shukla as key figures who have continuously enriched Hindi literature. Dr. Trivedi added that Shri Shukla did not follow any particular ideology or literary figure, and that his entire body of work remained distinctly original. In his writings, the ordinary person emerges with dignity and deep sensitivity. The lives of the oppressed, self-crafted idioms, simple language, and profound lived experience, he said, are the defining features of his literature. In Shri Shukla’s novels, the idea of the ‘home’ appears as one of the most beautiful and humane symbols.

Young New Delhi-based fiction writer and journalist Sushri Akanksha Pare said that while many people dismiss Shri Vinod Kumar Shukla’s works as difficult, for a large number of readers those very writings create a deep and lasting emotional bond. She described Shri Shukla as a worshipper of humanity, and said his literature builds a sincere bridge between one human being and another.
