New Delhi, (the states. news)
Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi will be leading a
demonstration on Thursday morning at the Vijay Chowk and submit a memorandum
with 2 crore signatures seeking President’s intervention for annulling the
three new agri-reform laws, party sources said.
The Congress had collected memorandum of appeals addressed to the President
signed by the farmers, labourers and the stake holders who have been opposing
the new legislation right from the beginning.
This was possible through the grand-old party’s nationwide campaign as a step
further in the sustained opposition to the anti farmers legislations, Congress
General Secretary KC Venugopal had said in a statement on Tuesday.
So far, around 2 crore signatures have been collected urging president’s
intervention for the withdrawal of the three new legislations. A delegation of
Congress MPs and party leaders will handover the same under leadership of Rahul Gandhi.
The Congress has also accused the government of being on an overdrive, using
public money to create false propaganda and narrative in favour of the farmers
bill and discrediting the protesting farmers.
It is pushing doctored surveys in media discourse to create support in favour
of these anti-farmer laws, the Congress alleged further.
Meanwhile, the grand-old party has asked PM Modi to repeal the new farm laws
while paying tributes to former prime minister Chaudhary Charan Singh on his
birth anniversary.
Congress communications chief Randeep Singh Surjewala urged PM Narendra Modi to
adopt a pragmatic approach and address the farmers’ grievances.
Farmers protests entered 28th day on Wednesday on the Kisan Diwas, birth
anniversary of the ‘champion of peasants’ former PM Chaudhary Charan Singh.
During the ongoing protests, around 44 farmers have lost their lives, while the
protestors continue to agitate amid the harsh freezing cold weather conditions
out on the roads at the major border points of the National Capital. (uni)
