However, after this statement of the Deputy Chief Minister, the politics on the border dispute has heated up. Balasaheb’s Shiv Sena minister Shambhuraje Desai told reporters that Karnataka Chief Minister Vasavaraj Bommai’s statement was ridiculous. They are talking like this on the basis of a resolution passed decades ago, while Sangli district was supplied water by the Karnataka government at that time from Maharashtra water, he said.
Desai told that only water from Maharashtra goes to Karnataka, which is stored in the dam. When there was less water in Jat tehsil of Sangli, at that time only our water was given. Desai said that CM Eknath Shinde was in jail in Karnataka for 40 days in the border dispute, so the CM himself is serious about this issue. Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Arvind Samant said that the matter is going on in the Supreme Court and the lawyer appointed by the state government is in London. Accusing the state government of being negligent in this matter, he said that at the behest of the central government, preparations are being made to hand over Sangli district of Maharashtra to Karnataka.
Nationalist Congress Party MLA Rohit Pawar said that the state government is sitting with its eyes closed. Gujarat is taking away the industries of Maharashtra. Now Karnataka has made preparations to take away the villages of Maharashtra.
Former MP Raju Shetty said that after the statement of the Chief Minister of Karnataka, all the political parties of the state should unite. He said Karnataka is eyeing Sangli district, but the state government should make efforts to bring back 865 Marathi speaking villages in Karnataka to Maharashtra.
