Raipur (thestates.news) | The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Raipur on Friday observed National Pharmacology Day to mark the birth anniversary of Col. Sir Ramnath Chopra, the Father of Indian Pharmacology.
The programme was inaugurated by Lt Gen Ashok Jindal (Retd), Executive Director and CEO, AIIMS Raipur, who recalled Col. Chopra’s pioneering role in developing pharmacology as a scientific discipline in India. Prof. (Dr.) Eli Mohapatra, Dean (Academics), was also present.
The event drew participation from pharmacologists of Pt. JNM Medical College, Abhishek Mishra Memorial Medical College, Shri Balaji Institute of Medical Science (SBIMS), and Raipur Institute of Medical Sciences, highlighting academic collaboration across institutions.
Welcoming the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) Nitin Gaikwad, Head of Pharmacology at AIIMS Raipur, stressed the relevance of the day in promoting rational drug use and patient safety. A floral tribute was offered to Col. Chopra’s portrait by dignitaries before the scientific sessions began.
The lecture series featured Dr. Yogendra Keche, who spoke on the life and legacy of Col. Chopra. Dr. Suryaprakash Dhaneria addressed Essential Drugs and Rational Use of Medicines, underlining their role in strengthening public health systems. Dr. Usha Joshi highlighted The Role of Pharmacologists in Advancing Healthcare and Research.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Alok Singh, Organizing Secretary and Associate Professor, who acknowledged the support of faculty, residents and staff. Special mention was made of the efforts of Dr. Pugazhenthen T., Dr. Prafulla Thaware, and Dr. Sameer Uttamrao Khasbage, along with senior and junior residents of the department.
The observance not only paid tribute to Col. Chopra’s visionary work but also reaffirmed AIIMS Raipur’s commitment to advancing excellence in pharmacology and healthcare delivery.(S-PIB)
