The Indian
Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday said that the Cyclonic storm Yaas
which has weakened into ‘Deep Depression’ on Wednesday evening, had been moving
towards Jharkhand and Bihar.
According to Indian Meteorological Department, the ‘Deep Depression’ over south
Jharkhand and adjoining north interior Odisha moved northwestwards with a speed
of about seven kmph during past six hours and lay centred over south Jharkhand
and neighbourhood, near latitude 22.7°N and longitude 85.5°E, about 70km
west-southwest of Jamshedpur and 70 km south south-east of Ranchi.
The system is very likely to move nearly northwards and weaken gradually into a
‘Depression’ during next six hours.
This weather system is to cause light to moderate rainfall at most places with
heavy to very heavy rains at isolated places over Sundergarh, Deogarh and
Keonjhargarh districts in Odisha while in Jharkhand, it will bring light to
moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated
places on Thursday.
The areas of West Bengal, Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh are also to witness
light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy rainfall at isolated
places on Thursday evening to Friday evening.
IMD officials also said that squally wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to
70 kmph would prevail over south Jharkhand and adjoining districts of north
interior Districts of Odisha and West Bengal during next six hours and to
decrease gradually thereafter.
Minor damage expected to thatched houses/ huts, minor damage to power and
communication lines, minor damage to Kutcha and some damage to Pucca roads
