Dancers of the Bhunjia Tribe perfomed a beautiful presentation of matrimonial dance

This perfomance also includes glimpses of  rural stories related to the tribals life in forests through dance and songs.

Raipur (thestates.news)In the second day of the ongoing National Tribal Dance Festival at the Science College ground in Raipur today, the dancers of Chhattisgarh’s Bhunjia tribe gave beautiful dance performance which is usually performed on the occasion of marriage. This cultural presentation of the Bhunjia tribe through this perfomance witnessed an overwhelming response from the audience who cheered them in unison. The reflection of the  rural culture of the Bhunjia tribe can be seen in their traditional dance. During the dance, the men hold bows and arrows in their hands, while the women are dressed in traditional attire. Bhunjia is one such special backward tribe community, which has been adopted by the Chhattisgarh government. People of this tribe live in areas the of Gariaband, Mahasamund and Dhamtari districts of Chhattisgarh and some parts of Odisha. Their living style, attire or rather the whole culture is very different from others.

People of Bhunjia community have been living in forests and mountains since time immemorial. They procure and utilise  everything from forests in sufficient quantity to suffice their livelihood, such as wood, fruits, flowers, ropes, herbs, water,  etc. The people of this community have alot of attachment and respect for nature and are content  in their own created world, and they do not bother about the outside world. People of the Bhunjia community like to adorn themselves with natural things, such as garlands of flowers made from Mahua, Gunjan, Harra etc. Women use peacock feathers or forest flowers to adorn their hair. The food practices of the people of this community include consuming tuber-root vegetables, fruits and hunting  animals. These dances are performed in the amicable moments of marriage.  In this dance, Bhunjia people can be seen wearing sal leaves, tendu leaves, mahua flowers etc. With their traditional attire and makeup. They preserve  the bow and arrows they recieve from their ancestors and it is customary to shoot arrows at social events, weddings etc.
