Raipur (thestates.news)| A key program of the state government aims to ensure that children receive education in their mother tongue. Teachers are being trained in translation techniques in the local language as part of this program. Reading material in the mother tongue will be readily available to children once translation has been learned in the local language. The availability of reading material in the local language will also increase interest in studies and basic literacy among children. District Project Office Samagra Shiksha, in conjunction with Room-to-Read, is organizing a three-day state-level workshop in Raipur to translate Hindi stories into the state’s 14 regional languages.
The program was taught by qualified instructors of the regional languages, which are primarily spoken in Chhattisgarh, particularly in the majority of Jashpur, Surguja, and Bastar. These include Halbi, Gondi, Baigni, Bhujia, Sadri, Kudukh, Dorli, Dhurwa, Bhatri, and Chhattisgarhi. New techniques of translation in the language are being taught. In the workshop, Dr. M. Sudhish, Assistant Director of Samagra Shiksha, provided detailed information about the availability of reading materials and about the importance of mother tongues. The value and formation of children’s literature were stressed by him. Mr. Prateek Bainji, Country Head of Room-to-Read stated that children’s books are essential for the growth of reading abilities. He placed a strong emphasis on exposing all kids to children’s literature. The participating instructors were informed about the innovative method of online translation by Mr. Navneet from Delhi. In addition to experts in fourteen languages, representatives of Room-to-Read Mr. Pradeep and Ms. Seema Randhir were present at the event.
