Kolkata, (thestates.news) Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday announced that the State
Government will bear the entire cost of movement of the migrant workers
returning home by special trains from other states to West Bengal.
Announcing this decision, Ms Banerjee tweeted, ” Saluting the toil faced
by our migrant breathen, I am pleased to announce the decision of GoWB to bear
the entire cost of movement for our migrant workers by special trains from
other states to West Bengal. “
” No migrant will be charged, ” she added.
A letter to the Railway Board has been dispatched in this regard, she informed.
Ms Banerjee also posted on twitter the letter written by Chief Secretary Rajiva
Sinha to Railway Board Chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav in this regard.
In the letter dated May 16, Mr Sinha wrote that the entire cost of movement by
special trains to West Bengal of migrants of the state stranded in various
parts of the country would be borne by the State Government.
The Chief Secretary wrote that railway officials must be given instruction to
refrain from claiming costs at the station of origin from people boarding
Shramik Special trains headed for West Bengal.
Mr Sinha also urged Mr Yadav to run the trains as per requisitions made by the
West Bengal Government.
Earlier, the West Bengal Government said it was keen on welcoming back its
people stranded in different countries and has long back communicated its
agreement as well as quarantine arrangements details to the Centre for special
international inbound journeys.
In a tweet Home Department yesterday said, ” GOWB keen to welcome
back our people stranded in different countries and has long back communicated

Ms Banerjee on Thursday said the State Government has arranged 105 additional
special trains to help all people stuck in different parts of the country and
who want to return to Bengal.
Taking to her Twitter handle, Ms Banerjee said, ” Towards our commitment
to helping all our people stuck in different parts of the country and who want
to return back to Bengal, I am pleased to announce that we have arranged 105
additional special trains. “
Earlier, referring to the migrant workers, she said about one lakh migrant
workers had already returned to Bengal and there would be 100 more such trains
to bring back the others.
“No one should worry. Even our government is taking necessary measures to bring
back the migrant labourers stranded in various parts of India,” Ms Banerjee
