Statue of Shaheed Mahendra Karma unveiled at Dantewada and Bastar University
Bastar University and the hospital of Shri Baliram Kashyap Memorial Medical College formally named after Shaheed Mahendra Karma
Raipur (the states. news) “Innocent martyrs and injured people of Jheeram Valley incident will definitely get the justice. Chhattisgarh government is committed to bring justice to the martyrs of Jheeram. No matter how many obstacles come in the way, Chhattisgarh government will get to the bottom of Jheeram Valley case”, said Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel. Chief Minister paid his humble tribute to the leaders and soldiers martyred in the Naxal attack on 25 May 2013 at Jheeram Valley on the occasion of ‘Jheeram Shraddhanjali Diwas’ at his residence office here today. Senior leaders of Chhattisgarh late Shri Vidyacharan Shukla, late Shri Nandkumar Patel, late Shri Mahendra Karma, late Shri Uday Mudaliar, late Shri Yogendra Sharma and many leaders of the security forces were martyred in the Naxal attack of Jheeram Valley. Mr. Baghel garlanded the portrait of the martyrs and paid floral tributes to them. Two-minute silence was observed in their memory.
On the occasion, Chief Minister Mr. Baghel unveiled the statue of Shaheed Shri Mahendra Karma in Dantewada and Jagdalpur; he also duly named the Hospital of Bastar University and Late Shri Baliram Kashyap Memorial Medical College, Dimrapal, Jagdalpur after Shaheed Shri Mahendra Karma, in the program. The program was attended by Minister of Industry and Commerce from Dantewada, Mr. Kawasi Lakhma, MLA Mrs. Devati Karma, Bastar MP Mr. Deepak Baij from Jagdalpur and MLA Mr. Rekhchand Jain, Rajya Sabha MP Mr. P.L. Punia through video conferencing. Cabinet members, MLAs and public representatives from different districts also attended the program online. MLAs Mr. Mohan Markam and Mr. Brihaspati Singh, Advisers to the Chief Minister Mr. Vinod Verma and Mr. Rajesh Tiwari, Chief Secretary Mr. Amitabh Jain, Additional Chief Secretary Mr. Subrat Sahu were present at the Chief Minister’s residence. On the occasion, Chief Minister said that the violent incident of Jheeram Valley on 25th May has been traumatic for all of us. This day is a dark day for Chhattisgarh, India and our democracy, when the Naxalites destroyed our entire leadership. Our leaders, our companions, public representatives, civilians and security personnel were martyred and many people were injured. Today, their martyrdom will be reverentially remembered by every person of the state.
Rajya Sabha MP Shri PL Punia said that Shaheed Shri Mahendra Karma had envisioned a naxal-free Bastar marching ahead on the path of development. He dedicated his entire life for this vision. Government of Chhattisgarh is doing commendable work in this direction under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel. He specifically mentioned the works being done for distribution of Forest Rights Recognition Cards to forest dwellers, procurement of forest produce, Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan and providing medical and employment facilities in Bastar Zone. Commerce and Industry Minister Shri Kawasi Lakhma and Lok Sabha MP Shri Deepak Baij unveiled the statue of Shaheed Shri Mahendra Karma in Dantewada and Jagdalpur. Bastar University and the Hospital of Late Shri Baliram Kashyap Memorial Medical College, Dimrapal, Jagdalpur was duly named after Shaheed Shri Mahendra Karma. MLA Mr. Mohan Markam thanked Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel for duly naming the hostipal of the aforementioned college and Bastar University after Shaheed Mahendra Karma. He said that Shaheed Mahendra Karma was very popular among the people of Bastar. Government of Chhattisgarh is making every effort for the development of the region to realize the vision of late Shri Karma. Shaheed Shri Mahendra Karma’s wife and MLA Smt. Devaki Karma paid tributes to the martyrs of Jheeram Valley incident in the program. MLA Mr. Rekhachand Jain said that after renaming the hospital of Bastar University and Medical College in the name of Shaheed Shri Mahendra Karma, the state government has made his memory permanent.
