Kalinga University Hosts Guest Lecture on “Essential Narcotic Drugs: The Vigilance Needed for Safe Usage and Misuse Prevention”

Raipur,(thestates.news)| Faculty of Pharmacy, Kalinga University recently organized a thought-provoking guest lecture on the theme “Essential Narcotic Drugs: The Vigilance Needed for Safe Usage and Misuse Prevention”. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. T. Pugazhenthan, Associate Professor, Faculty-in-Charge, Central Pharmacy & Essential Narcotics Officer, AIIMS Raipur, Chhattisgarh. The session witnessed enthusiastic participation, with over 110 attendees, including faculty members, research scholars, and students.

The program was successfully conducted under the leadership of Dr. Sandip Prasad Tiwari,
Organizing Secretary and Principal, Faculty of Pharmacy, with the support of Convenors Dr.
Indu Lata Kanwar, Dr. Rupali Bharti Sao and Ms. Saloni Saw. During his insightful lecture, Dr. Pugazhenthan highlighted the clinical importance of essential narcotic drugs, particularly in pain management and palliative care. He underscored the need for vigilance in usage and warned of the serious risks associated with misuse. The session emphasized regulatory compliance, national guidelines, and ethical responsibilities in drug handling. Through real-world examples, the speaker sensitized participants to the challenges of preventing misuse and maintaining professional
accountability.

The interactive discussion segment encouraged students to engage with practical queries,
which were addressed with clarity by the expert. 110 students from D. Pharm, B. Pharm and M. Pharm and Pharm.D along with faculty members attended the session. The session ended up with the vote of thanks by Dr. Sandip Prasad Tiwari, Principal, Faculty of Pharmacy, Kalinga University and Organizer of session.
