Raipur (thestates.news) | A life once marked by uncertainty has taken a steady turn in Kondagaon, where a former Maoist has rejoined the mainstream and built a secure future with support from the Chhattisgarh Naxal Surrender/Victim Relief and Rehabilitation Policy. The state government, led by Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, is helping those who leave violence rebuild their lives with stability and dignity through this policy. It offers financial assistance, housing support, and livelihood opportunities to help former Maoists reintegrate into society.
In Kondagaon district, Shri Pawan Kumar from Chingnar village in Farasgaon block is among those who have benefited from the initiative. He received a permanent house under a special housing project of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin for surrendered naxalities. Chingnar village, located about 45 km from the block headquarters, was once affected by Maoist activity. The area is now seeing gradual change, with improved access to government schemes and basic services.
Shri Pawan Kumar was earlier associated with a Maoist organisation, a period marked by uncertainty and hardship. His family lived on the edge of a forest in a hut and a dilapidated mud house, without basic facilities or any sense of security about the future.
Over time, he realised that violence leads only to loss. Influenced by the government’s surrender and rehabilitation policy, he decided to leave the Maoist organisation and return to the mainstream. This decision marked a turning point in his life.
Following his surrender, the district administration approved a house for him under a special housing project for surrendered families, linked to the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin for 2024–25. Financial assistance was released in phases, with ₹40,000 as the first instalment, ₹55,000 as the second, and ₹25,000 as the final instalment. He was also provided 90 days of wage employment. With this support, he completed construction of his permanent house within the stipulated time, providing a stable base for his family.
Basic facilities have also been ensured at his home, including electricity, cooking gas, a toilet, and tap water. These have improved the family’s living conditions and provided a sense of security.
Shri Pawan Kumar now lives with his family in a safe environment and is working towards a stable future. He expressed gratitude to the government and thanked Prime Minister and Chief Minister for the support extended under the policy.
