New Delhi, (the states. news)
Even as India celebrated 151st birth
anniversary of father of nation Mahatma Gandhi, his assassin, Nathuram Godse,
was on Friday hailed by many on Twitter.
At the time of filling the report, more than
one lakh tweets were posted on the social media, data reveals. It trended as #NathuramZindabad.
Godse, a nationalist, on January 30, 1948,
fired three bullets at Mahatma Gandhi from point range in New Delhi after a
prayer meeting. Godse believed that Gandhi favoured the demands of Muslims
during the partition. He was hanged to death in the Ambala Central Jail on
November 15, 1949.
Friday was not the first time when Godse’s name
flashed on social media. In 2019, a similar trend was witnessed when “#GodseAmarRahe”
went viral on social media.
In 2019, Sadhvi Pragya Thakur, a Member of Parliament
from Bhopal, called Godse a patriot but later apologized after facing severe
backlash across party spectrum. PM Modi,
criticising Pragya’s comments, had said, “I will never be able to forgive
Pragya Thakur for insulting Mahatma Gandhi.” (uni) (media
