Mahasamund district administration alert regarding new variant JN-1 of COVID-19, health department speeds up preparations

Mahasamund (thestates.news) | In view of the increase in cases of new variant JN-1 of COVID-19 in some states of the country, the Chhattisgarh government has issued instructions to all districts to remain alert. In compliance with the instructions issued by the government on 28 May 2025, the health department in Mahasamund district has intensified preparations. Chief Medical and Health Officer Mr. P Kudeshiya informed that all health workers in the district have been instructed to remain alert regarding COVID-19 management. To deal with any situation related to COVID, 6 beds (ICU with ventilator) have been reserved in the district hospital affiliated to the Government Medical College and 2-2 beds at the community health center level. Along with this, the government has especially emphasized on monitoring ILI (Influenza Like Illness) and SARI (Severe Acute Respiratory Infection) cases. All health institutions have been instructed to do regular reporting on the IHIP portal.

To prevent COVID-19 infection, it is necessary to follow the following precautions, including regular washing of hands with soap and clean water, mandatory use of masks in hospitals and crowded places. Do not touch eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands. Cover mouth and nose with handkerchief or elbow while coughing or sneezing and stay at home if any of these symptoms appear and take a balanced and nutritious diet.

People falling in the high risk group have been advised to take extra precautions, which includes newborns and young children, people with weak immune system, citizens above 60 years of age, pregnant women and people suffering from serious diseases like asthma, diabetes, heart disease. Currently, there is no active case of COVID-19 in Mahasamund district. However, the district administration and health department are fully alert and prepared to deal with any possible wave.
