Marriage of 16-year-old girl stopped

Family members were counselled

Raipur (thestates.news) | With the aim of stopping child marriage, the Women and Child Development Department and the District Child Protection Unit are continuously monitoring and taking necessary action in Bemetara district. In this connection, recently, information about the proposed child marriage of a 16-year-old girl in a village of Vikaskhand Navagarh was received on Child Helpline number 1098.

This team formed under the leadership of Project Coordinator Shri Rajendra Chandravanshi stopped the marriage of a 16-year-old girl of Sahu family residing in a village near Temri, which was to be solemnised with a youth resident of Raipur. The family members were informed about the provisions of the Child Marriage Prohibition Act, 2006, which clearly states that getting married when the minimum legal age of marriage is not completed is a punishable offence. After counselling, the family members agreed to postpone the marriage of the girl till her legal age is completed.
