New Delhi, (thestates.news)| The last deadline for filing Income Tax Return (ITR) is fixed as July 31, but till July 29, more than 4.52 crore taxpayers have filed ITR. However, the government has already made it clear that like the last two years, this time the deadline for filing returns is not going to increase. Meanwhile, the Income Tax Department is continuously appealing to the taxpayers to file returns by the stipulated time limit by tweeting.

The Income Tax Department tweeted on Saturday that more than 4.52 crore returns have been received on the e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department for the assessment year 2022-23 and financial year 2021-22. More than 4.52 crore income tax returns have been filed till July 29 for the assessment year 2022-23. In this, on July 29 alone, more than 43 lakh taxpayers filed their returns. According to the department, July 31 is the last deadline to file ITR, those who have not filed their return yet, they should file their return at the earliest.

The department has appealed to the taxpayers that if you have not filed ITR yet, go to http:ncometax.gov.in and file your return without waiting for the last date. According to the department, a total of 5.89 crore income tax returns were filed in the last financial year 2020-21 till the extended date December 31, 2021. It is noteworthy that the last date of income tax return is 31st July, 2022 for those individual taxpayers who do not need to get their accounts audited. If you do not file ITR within the stipulated time frame, you may have to pay a late fee as well as a penalty.(H.S.):
