Earning Rs 30,000 to Rs 35,000 Per Month
Raipur, (thestates.news) | Several initiatives are being taken in Chhattisgarh to link the youth with employment and self-employment, enabling them to achieve self-dependence and financial empowerment. One such inspiring example is Padmalochan Barik from Saraipali in Mahasamund district, who established a thriving hairdressing salon with the aid received under Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP). Not only has he attained financial independence, but he is also providing employment opportunities to other young individuals.
Padmalochan Barik, a postgraduate, shared that he approached the Chhattisgarh Khadi and Village Industries Department in pursuit of self-employment. There, he learned about the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme and decided to leverage its benefits to start his own hairdressing and salon business.
Under this scheme, the Saraipali branch of the State Bank of India sanctioned a loan of Rs 3,68,400 for him, of which 25 percent was granted as a subsidy. Using these funds, he procured essential equipment and materials to establish his hairdressing salon. Today, he is not only self-employed but also earning a steady income of Rs 30,000 to Rs 35,000 per month while repaying his loan installments on time.
It is noteworthy that Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme is a flagship initiative under the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, aimed at creating self-employment opportunities for unemployed youth. The scheme provides subsidies of up to 35 percent in rural areas and 25 percent in urban areas, facilitating aspiring entrepreneurs in launching their businesses.
