New Delhi (thestates.news)| The Supreme Court on Friday appointed retired Kerala High Court Judge
CN Ramachandran Nair to conduct an inventory of Sabarimala deity Lord Ayyappa’s
sacred ornaments and prepare a detailed list to be submitted in the Apex Court
within four weeks.
“The retired judge can have a jeweller to help him. List after four
weeks,” a three-judge bench of the apex court, headed by Justice N V
Ramana, said.
The bench has requested Attorney General KK
Venugopal to bring about a settlement in the dispute between the clans of
erstwhile royal family of Pandalam, which is believed to be the family of Lord
Ayyappa.
The SC also asked for an inventory of sacred ornaments on the advice of the AG,
appearing for Kerala.
During the course of the hearing, the AG submitted to the Court that this was
done with Padmanabha Swamy treasure, as a measure to prevent fake items from
sneaking in.
The Court wanted to know, if the state can take over the security of the
ornaments.
There was also some duel during the hearing among lawyers, as to who represents
the 100-year-old Pandalam Raja, the mythological father of Sabarimala deity
Lord Ayyappa.
One of the advocates suggested bringing the ailing King to the Supreme Court.
However, Justice Ramana said the court cannot take the risk and posted the
matter for further hearing after four weeks. (UNI)
