SC tells Centre to appoint former justice Rajendra Menon as AFT chairman with immediate effect

(thestates.news) Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi has ordered for appointment of former Delhi High Court Chief Justice Rajendra Menon as the chairperson of the Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT). On Monday, Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said that he had recommended the name of Justice Menon. The Supreme Court has directed the Central Government to appoint Justice Menon as chairperson of the AFT with immediate effect. Attorney General KK Venugopal told the court that the Appointment Committee of the Central Government will approve the name of Justice Menon. The current chairperson of AFT, Justice Virendra Singh, is retiring on 6 October. The AFT hears cases involving the military.
