| Joining issue with the government for its latest stand on
the high voltage NRC issue in Lok Sabha, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi wanted
to know on Tuesday why the NDA regime has not said that the NRC will ‘never
come’ in this country.
“Kabhi nahi, nahi likha hae. They are saying till now….,” the
Hyderabad lawmaker said in Lok Sabha participating in the debate on Motion of
Thanks to President’s address.
He said NRC is only the ‘other side’ of the National Population of Register
(NPR) and challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to clarify on the same.
“If NPR is carried out, the NRC will be also there….It is not today, but
it can come tomorrow or day after,” he said.
The vocal lawmaker’s observation comes shortly after Union Minister of State
for Home Nityanand Rai said in a written reply in Lok Sabha that: “Till
now, the government has not taken any decision to prepare National Register of
Indian Citizens (NRC) at the national level”.
The issue was raised by Trinamool Congress member Sukhendu Sekhar Roy in Rajya
Sabha also. (UNI)
