Raipur (thestates.news) | The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has announced the celebration of the 4th National Pharmacovigilance Week from September 17-23, 2024 with the theme “Building ADR
Reporting Culture for Patient Safety” by conducting Pharmacovigilance and adverse drug
reaction awareness event. This important event aims to raise awareness about patient safety
and promote a culture of reporting adverse drug reactions (ADRs).
Faculty of Pharmacy, Kalinga University celebrated the 4 th “National Pharmacovigilance Awareness Week” on 19 September 2024 on the Theme: “Building ADR and Reporting
Culture for Patient Safety”.
As a part of the awareness program, a Guest Lecture was organized under the guidance of Dr. Sandip Prasad Tiwari (Principal) Faculty of Pharmacy. The event was coordinated by Mr. Pranjul Shrivastava (Assistant Professor), Mr. Smrutiranjan Dash (Assistant Professor), Dr. Rupali Bharti Sao (Assistant Professor). The technical awareness session was preceded by Dr. Pugazhenthan Thangaraju (Coordinator – MvPI), Dr. Prafulla P. Thaware (Assistant Professor & Member Patient Safety Committee), Dr. Vikas Katiyara (AMC, Senior resident I/C) from AIIMS,Raipur. The students of M. Pharm, B, Pharm, D, Pharm, and Pharm D attended the event.
“National Pharmacovigilance Awareness Week” has been celebrated with the intent to create
awareness and educate the public and other healthcare professionals about the importance of
Pharmacovigilance and to sensitize the general public about the role of healthcare
professionals in carrying out Pharmacovigilance activities. The technical awareness session
started with introductory information about the importance and needs of Adverse drug effect
reporting (ADR) and the role of pharmacovigilance in ADR filling. The students were also
informed about the “World Patient Safety Day” which is observed on 19 th September every
year across the globe to create global awareness about patient safety, increase or enhance
public engagement in patient safety, and create action plans to overcome the issues of patient
harm. Different types of ADR and the method used for ADR filling were also introduced to
the students with encouraging thoughts towards the duty of pharmacists towards ADR filling.
More than 125 students from D. Pharm, B. Pharm, M. Pharm, and Pharm D along with
faculty members attended the session.
The session ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sandip Prasad Tiwari, Principal, Faculty of
Pharmacy, Kalinga University, the organizer of the session.
