40 talented archers chosen for Raipur’s Residential Archery Academy

Players to get top-notch facilities and professional training

Raipur (thestates.news) | A total of 40 archers have been selected for the Residential Archery Academy operated by the Sports and Youth Welfare Department in Raipur. The state-level selection trials were held on June 25 and 26 at the Swami Vivekananda Stadium and the Archery Arena in Sports Directorate Campus in Raipur.

Under the guidance of Sports Director Smt. Tanuja Salam, the selection trials were conducted thoroughly by the nodal officer Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivas, Administrator of the Sports Academy in Raipur. The selection committee, comprising trainers from the Sports Authority of India Training Center Raipur and the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare (NIS), conducted motor ability, medical, sports skill, and mental ability tests to assess the fitness of the players. Selection was based on merit and performance, with only those meeting the prescribed standards being chosen in the 13 to 17 age group.

Players from various districts across the state participated in the trials. The selected players include 5 girls and 9 boys from Raipur district, 7 girls from Surguja, 2 boys and 4 girls from Dhamtari, 5 girls and 2 boys from Mahasamund, 3 boys from Narayanpur, 1 boy from Bilaspur, 1 boy from Kondagaon, and 1 girl from Gariaband district. These players will be admitted to the academy within 10 days. In case any selected player is unable to join, admission will be offered to waitlisted candidates based on merit.

Players admitted to the sports academy will receive facilities including free accommodation, meals, educational support, costume, sports equipment, accident insurance, and participation in competitions as per the Sports Academy Operations Rules, 2014. The academy aims to prepare residential players for international-level competition, facilitated by NIS trainers appointed by the state government. Besides, international-level archery players and coaches will periodically visit the academy for specialized training sessions.
