Srinagar, (thestates.news)| Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday said the action against the BBC discredits the image of the country across the world. Mehbooba said such acts only expose the country being termed as mother of democracies. “BBC is a credible news platform across the globe. The raids on BBC are happening after the documentary on Gujarat riots was released. This action against BBC discredits the image of the country across the world,” Mufti told reporters in Srinagar.
Mufti said this after the Income Tax department carried out “surveys” at the premises of BBC offices in New Delhi and Mumbai. The former chief minister said this action also defames the country globally. “It also exposes the BJP’s Vishwaguru claims. We are known as the mother of all democracies but this action exposes us where we stand,” she added.
Mufti said the action against BBC is nothing new especially for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“ In the past three year, we have seen how journalists are treated and some of them are in jail. Unfortunately, the national and international community stayed silent when it was happening here and now it is happening there as well,” she added.
She said the raids at BBC were sending the wrong message when India was gearing for the G-20 summit.
On the ongoing demolition drive in Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti asked people here to take control of land in their own hands.“I want to tell the people of Jammu and Kashmir that you should take control of your land in your own hands. We should take the custody of our land in our own hands. We are called encroachers. We are not encroachers but this is our land,” the former chief minister said.
Mehbooba said in demolition drive shops and houses of the poor are bulldozed and now banks are sending notices as well.
“..There is complete lawlessness,” Mufti said.(UNI)
