Asia Cup: Indian squad announced, Kohli returns

Mumbai, (thestates.news)| The All India Senior Selection Committee on Monday night announced the 14-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup. Virat Kohli has made a comeback in the team, while India’s star fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel were not available for selection due to injuries. They are currently in rehab at NCA in Bengaluru. The much-awaited Asia Cup cricket tournament will take place from August 27 this year. The 15th edition of the tournament will be played between six teams (main event) in the UAE. Defending champions India is the most successful team, having won the trophy seven times. While the previous edition of the tournament was held in ODI format, this edition will have T20 format.

The six teams are divided into two groups. Group A consists of India, Pakistan and a qualifying team, while Group B consists of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. Each team will play each other once in the group stage. In which the top two teams from each group will advance to the Super 4 round. Top 2 teams from Super 4 will qualify for the final. India squad for Asia Cup: Rohit Sharma (Captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (wk), Dinesh Karthik (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan. Three players Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel and Deepak Chahar have been named as standbys.
