New Delhi (thestates.news)| The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday took a jibe at Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over interim bail granted to party convener Arvind Kejriwal by the Supreme Court and said the Chief Minister is trying to “mislead” everyone and his stubbornness is creating a policy paralysis and constitutional crisis in Delhi.
Addressing a press conference, at party headquarters in New Delhi BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj said, “It is not a victory but a setback for the Delhi CM, one of the key accused in the excise policy case.”
Swaraj’s remarks came after AAP ministers Atishi and Saurabh Bhardwaj termed the Supreme Court order on Kejriwal a “victory of truth”.
Swaraj said, “Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has been granted interim bail only because one point of law has been referred to the larger bench. A few days ago, the ED presented a detailed chargesheet in front of the court. As per that chargesheet, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal was the kingpin of the excise policy scam.”
“Today, the Supreme Court has indicated that whenever a constitutional functionary is involved in such a crime, he has to resign from his post. Arvind Kejriwal is trying to misguide everyone,” she said.On May 17, the Enforcement Directorate in its seventh supplementary chargesheet filed described the AAP convener as the kingpin in the case. Swaraj alleged that AAP has received Rs 100 crore kickbacks in the liquor scam, a major share of which was purportedly used for funding its election expenses.
On Friday, the Supreme Court granted interim bail to Kejriwal in the matter related to his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the agency’s money laundering probe in the larger Delhi liquor policy case. The three-judge bench also referred Kejriwal’s plea against his arrest to a larger bench.
However, the Delhi chief minister will remain jailed due to his judicial custody in a separate case being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the same matter.(UNI)
