New Delhi, (Thestates.news) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday moved the Rouse Avenue Court seeking bail in the excise policy case. Two separate applications have been filed before the Special PMLA court at Rouse Avenue.
In one application, Kejriwal sought regular bail and in the second plea, he sought interim bail for seven days on medical grounds.Both applications are expected to be taken up by the Special PMLA court at 2 pm today.
On May 28, the Supreme Court’s Vacation bench refused to consider his plea to extend his Interim bail for one week because the court was seized with the matter as the order on his earlier plea challenging his arrest is already reserved in the Apex Court.The Supreme Court’s registry yesterday also refused to accept the Chief Minister’s plea for a 7-day extension of his interim bail.
Refusing to accept the application, the Supreme Court registry said that since the verdict is already reserved on the challenge to arrest, Kejriwal’s plea for extension of interim bail has no relation to the main petition.The Apex Court, however, allowed the Delhi Chief Minister to move the trial court for regular bail.
Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 on allegations that he and his party leaders had siphoned off Rs 100 crores of the New Delhi Excise Policy for 2021-22 to benefit certain liquor sellers. This excise policy was scrapped later by Kejriwal himself.
Kejriwal had got interim bail from a bench comprising Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Dipankar Datta on May 10 and he was asked to surrender at Tihar Jail on June 2.
The bench headed by Sanjiv Khanna had on May 17 reserved verdict on Kejriwal’s plea challenging the validity of his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) case linked to the liquor scam for formulating a new excise policy for Delhi. (UNI)
