Raipur (thestates.news) | Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai chaired a review meeting of the Education Department on July 1. He stated that education is the key to progress. He instructed the officials to provide quality education to children and ensured that discipline is maintained in schools. He directed Block Education Officers to conduct field visits to monitor the quality of teaching and learning in schools. He instructed district collectors to inspect two to three schools every month to oversee their functioning.

The Chief Minister outlined the state government’s commitment to good governance and transparent administration. He emphasised improving school infrastructure and educational arrangements for children. He expressed strong disapproval of the slow pace of school renovation work. He stated that the slow pace of the renovation work of dilapidated schools would not be tolerated. He instructed the collectors to oversee the structural integrity of school buildings. He directed the officials to oversee the progress of renovating dilapidated schools under the School Jatan Yojana and review the status of the allocated funds to complete the necessary projects. Additionally, he directed the officials to prepare a proposal for the rationalisation of teachers and schools to overcome the shortage of teachers in schools and present it at the next cabinet meeting.

Chief Minister highlighted that Prime Minister Shri Modi has launched a tree-planting campaign called “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” in his Mann Ki Baat program. He urged that in the schools with boundary walls, students should be encouraged to plant trees during the rainy season and take responsibility for their care. He recommended tree species, including Neem, Gulmohar, and Karanj. Additionally, Chief Minister Shri Sai instructed the officials to formulate a ‘Training Policy’ to provide rotational training for all teachers to ensure they receive consistent training for professional development. He also emphasised the importance of involving parents in the educational process. He shared that a state-wide Mega Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM) will be held in Chhattisgarh’s Government schools on August 6th for the first time.

Education Department will appoint mentors to prevent dropouts under RTE

To address the dropout rate among students admitted to non-grant private schools under the Right to Education Act (RTE), the education department will appoint district-wise officers as mentors. The Secretary of School Education has issued a letter to all Collectors regarding this initiative. These mentors will be responsible for ensuring that students selected under RTE get admission to the schools with ease. They will also address any issues faced by the students. They will engage with parents, school management, and administration to resolve problems.

Vocational Education: Aligning children’s skills with industry needs

Chief Minister has directed the officials to conduct vocational courses in schools. He emphasised that these courses should align with the needs of the state’s industries to ensure that students can secure employment opportunities in both current and future industries after completing their 12th grade. Additionally, he stressed the importance of providing field training for students as part of these vocational programs. It is also noteworthy that, under the National Education Policy 2020, vocational courses will be introduced from class 6.

Officials shared that the student-teacher ratio in Chhattisgarh is better than the national average. While the national ratio is one teacher for every 26 children, Chhattisgarh boasts a ratio of 21.84. Additionally, there are currently 9,438 Balwadis in the state for children aged 5 to 6, and the department will start 1,132 new Balwadis this year. In the review of the PM Shri Yojana, officials informed that the scheme’s first phase has been implemented in 211 schools across the state. The initiative aims to select and develop one model school in each development block and urban area. Officials further informed that proposals have been submitted to extend the scheme to 198 more schools, which will be developed into green schools featuring improved infrastructure, kitchen gardens, AI robotics, and ICT lab facilities. Officials also informed that summer camps were organised in most schools this year.

Officials informed the department has established the Vidya Samiksha Kendra to oversee beneficiary-oriented programs run by the School Education Department. The centre will gradually monitor various aspects, including online attendance of students and teachers, student evaluations, the status of mid-day meal schemes, teacher promotions and transfers, and leave status. The Education Department has signed an MoU with IIT Bhilai to develop software for data analysis.
