Cong protests over ED grilling Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, ( thestates.news): Hundreds of Congress workers protested in various locations across the national capital on Wednesday after their leader Rahul Gandhi was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate for the third day in a row.The sloganeering and massive protests began after Gandhi arrived at the ED office on Abdul Kalam road. There was a large police presence in and around the Congress building and the Enforcement Directorate office.

Police officers in large numbers, as well as paramilitary forces and rapid response teams, were stationed at various locations to prevent any untoward incidents.The police were forced to detain several party workers, including women, as a precautionary measure. The police were seen picking up Congress workers sitting in front of the barricades and loading them into their vehicles.Angry party workers also set fire to two tyres outside the ED office to protest police attempts to silence them.

The police detained party leaders and workers in various locations. Vineet Punia, AICC Media Secretary, was detained outside the AICC office at 24 Akbar Road. Among those detained are Indian Youth Congress chief BV Srinivas and Delhi Congress chief Anil Chaudhary. The party leaders claimed that the police are harassing them and not allowing them to protest against the government. Deepender Singh Hooda, the party’s leader, accused the Delhi Police of barring him from visiting his own party headquarters.(HS)
