New Delhi, (thestates.news)| Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Saturday took a swipe at the ruling BJP over the violence in Manipur saying the “double-engine government has failed in Manipur”. “Look at the consequences of the ‘double engine sarkar’ in Manipur. Both engines have failed,” Chidambaram said referring to violence in the North Eastern state. The former Union Minister said, “The state government is broken with internal dissensions. The Central government has a trigger-happy solution to all issues. The result is that the divide between Meiteis and the tribal communities has widened.”
“Communities that were on the path to peacefully co-exist during the Congress’ governments are now on the war path ,” he added. Chidambaram also said the voters of Karnataka should beware of the “spurious” promise of a double engine government. Elections to the 224 member Karnataka Assembly will be held on May 10. The results will be declared on May 13. Protests erupted in Manipur on Wednesday against the High Court directive to look into the demand of Meitei to be included in the ST list.
All Tribal Students Union Manipur and some other organisations opposed the decision of the HC and staged protest rallies. Several houses were burnt in Bishnupur district by miscreants. (UNI)
