Mumbai (Thestates. news) | Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis on Monday instructed officials to promote mulberry cultivation and sericulture among farmers of Vidarbha to make them self-reliant. In view of continuous crop failure, unpredictable nature, climate change, limited soil fertility, it becomes risky to depend on traditional crops.
In such a situation, mulberry cultivation on less water is emerging as a more profitable and sustainable agriculture that provides financial support to farmers, he said. The state government is implementing various schemes in collaboration with the central government to enrich the farmers of Vidarbha through sericulture.
The Chief Minister further instructed to develop mulberry cultivation and tussar silk industry from the social responsibility funds of the central and the state governments as well as private companies and social organisations. Therefore, Fadnavis has given instructions to promote sericulture among farmers of Vidarbha so that they can become self-reliant. (UNI)
