Varanasi,(thestates.news): Hearing in Gyanvapi Shringar Gauri case was held on Monday in Varanasi District Court amid tight security. Varanasi District Judge Dr Ajay Krishna Vishwesh, after hearing the arguments of the respondent, fixed July 4 as the next date of hearing. After Supreme Court’s order, the district court is considering the maintainability of the petition (whether the petition is maintainable or not).
Earlier, arguments were presented in favour of dismissal of the case on behalf of the respondent Anjuman Inaztiya Masajid Committee. Respondent side objected to the Shivling-like figure found during the survey inside the Gyanvapi complex and the claim of worshiping it. During the hearing, the respondent read the judgment of the case of 1937 Deen Mohammad Vs Secretary of State and said that the court had decided on the basis of oral testimony and documents that this entire complex (Gyanvapi Masjid Complex) belonged to Muslim Waqf. Muslims have the right to offer Namaz in it. Advocate Abhaynath Yadav, appearing for the respondent, claimed that the Gyanvapi complex is the property of the Waqf.
During this, plaintiff’s advocate Harishankar Jain and his son advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain were also present. It was stated that even the arguments in favour of dismissing the matter on behalf of the Masajid Committee have not been completed. In the next hearing, after the completion of the arguments, the plaintiff’s side and the district government advocate will present their side.
On August 18, 2021, five women from Varanasi and Delhi, filed a petition in the court of Civil Judge (Senior Division) demanding the right to worship other deities including Shringar Gauri in Gyanvapi complex. On the order of the court, proceedings of the Advocate Commissioner took place in the Gyanvapi campus, whose report is filed in the court. At the same time, respondent side demanded the Supreme Court to hear the merits of the original suit and stop the survey. The Supreme Court, refusing to hear on merit, transferred the trial to the court of district judge. After this, the hearing was held on May 26 and on Monday in the court of District Judge.(H.S.)
