Inaugural of Waste Optimization Professional Training Program at Kalinga University

Raipur (thestates.news) |The Department of Zoology (Kalinga University) in collaboration with CECB launched a Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP) of 60 days training on Waste Optimization Professionals. This programme is organized on the line with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Skill India Mission. The program is sponsored by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate change (MoEF & CC), setting the stage for discussions on sustainable practices with a focus on waste management. The event, brought together experts, educators, and participants to tackle the escalating issue of waste generation.

The program commenced with a keynote address by the Chief Guest, Dr. Alok Kumar Sahu,
Principal Director and Head of CIPET, Raipur, Chhattisgarh. He emphasized the alarming rise in
plastic waste due to modern lifestyle trends, including single-use plastics, medical disposables, and changes in consumer behavior. Dr. Sahu presented a detailed analysis of the environmental impact and highlighted advanced waste management technologies such as pyrolysis and refining for mixed plastic waste. He also elaborated on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) guidelines for recycled plastic products and the legal framework governing plastic waste, encouraging adherence to the principles of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recovery, and Landfill. Prof. Dr. R. Sridhar (Vice-Chancellor, Kalinga University), served as the Guest of Honor, welcoming participants and stressing the need for such initiatives to foster sustainable practices and build capacity for environmental stewardship.
Adding to the momentum, Dr. Sandeep Gandhi (Registrar, Kalinga University) expressed the
university’s unwavering support for sustainability-focused programs, reinforcing Kalinga
University’s commitment to addressing ecological concerns. He also, provided a comprehensive
roadmap for waste optimization, advocating actionable strategies for minimizing environmental
impact.
This 60-day program will equip participants with practical tools and knowledge to address waste
management challenges, emphasizing innovative techniques and sustainable solutions. By initiating such impactful programs, Kalinga University continues to demonstrate its leadership in
environmental education and its dedication to fostering a greener, more sustainable future.
