Kalinga University in collaboration with Chhattisgarh Environmental Conservation Board organized the 1 st Phase of Envirothon: Trash to Treasure on Mission LiFE Program

Raipur (thestates.news) |  Department of Zoology, Kalinga University in collaboration with Chhattisgarh Environmental Conservation Board (CECB) organized the 1 st Phase of “Envirothon: Trash to Treasure” on Mission LiFE program at Kalinga University Campus, Naya Raipur, Chhattisgarh. This was a collaborative effort between Kalinga University and CECB, to address the overarching and challenging global issue of “Waste Management”. The main focus was to allow the young minds to creatively think for solutions which can be used in effectively and efficiently recycling the wastes.

The program was graced by the presence of Dr. R. Shridhar (Vice Chancellor, Kalinga
University), Dr. Suresh Chandra (Senior Scientific Officer, CECB), Mr. A. P. Sawant (Public Relations Officer, CECB), Mr. R. R. Singh (Superintendent Engineer, CECB), Ms. Neelima Sonkar (Scientist, CECB), and Dr. Anita Sawant (Senior Scientist, CECB). All the dignitaries put a glance on the problem regarding waste and its management. The event included a session where all the faculties and students took the LiFE mission Pledge and joined for a signature campaign. The LiFE mission pledge was conducted by Mr. A.P. Sawant in which a human chain was formed in the shape of LiFE. The dignitaries emphasized on how we should modify our lifestyles and thoughts to help maintain environmental sustainability. Participants from various universities/institutions of Chhattisgarh participated and shared their ideas/works on various solutions for recycling of waste material. The students were from Zoology, Biotechnology, Forensic science, and Technology backgrounds. The ideas they presented included designing electric vehicles, initiating biogas plants from kitchen garbage, using insects to degrade organic wastes, working on recycling Tetra Packs, recycling of plastics, etc. The students explained their ideas through PowerPoint presentations and working models.
