Kalinga University organized One Day Workshop on Advanced Instruments in Central Instrumentation Facilities (CIF)

All the courses of the university are recognized by the approving authorities like University Grants Commission, Bar Council of India, Pharmacy Council of India, All India Council for Technical Education, National Council for Teacher
Education etc. Kalinga University, Raipur is a well-known Educational Institute that focusses on quality education and research. To take the endeavour of research and development ahead, Kalinga University established well equipped Central Instrumentation Facilities (CIF). CIF emphasises to create a research environment by providing students, faculty, external academic institutes and R&D organizations with access to high-end research instruments.


The goal of Kalinga University’s Central Instrumentation Facility (CIF) is to provide a central facility with the most up-to-date and advanced analytical techniques for cutting-edge research in diverse fields of science and technology. Undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctorate students and staff members of the university, as well as other organizations from all over India, make substantial use of CIF’s services. External entities, primarily academic institutions in the country, are given access to the facility on a fee-for-service basis. The Kalinga University CIF provides a range of advanced instruments and technical skills to support faculty and student research as well as
industrial R&D. After successful execution of numerous training programs, CIF of Kalinga University
organized a one-day Workshop on advanced instrumentation in Central Instrumentation Facility on 28 th May, 2022. The workshop was specially designed for the students from the Department of Science of Govt. Mata Karma College, Mahasamund. The workshop started with an inaugural ceremony that marked the eminent presence of Dr.

Swetlana, Assistant Professor, Govt. Mata Karma College, Mahasamund, Vice-Chancellor, Kalinga University- Dr. R. Shridhar, Director General- Dr. Byju John, Deans and Heads of various departments and participants from Govt. Mata Karma College Mahasamund. In his address, Vice Chancellor Dr. R. Shridhar emphasized that the goal of this workshop is to enable users to succeed and keep up with worldwide changes, as well as to publish their research findings in high impact factor peer reviewed journals. Dr. Byju John, Director General and Dean of Research, stated that the workshop is designed in such a way that the participants can easily meet laboratory research and industry requirements. The inaugural ceremony was followed by a short break. The workshop started with the session on introduction to SEM and XRD that was given by Dr. N.K.Dhapekar, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil
Engineering and Mr. Abhishek Pandey, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany. The next session was on introduction to sophisticated instruments, the resource person of which was Dr. Sandip Prasad Tiwari, Professor, Faculty of Pharmacy. This session was followed by lunch. The workshop resumed back after lunch and the post- lunch session was dedicated to the demonstration of UV Spectrometer, Centrifuge and Gel Electrophoresis. The demonstrations were given by Mr. Abhishek Pandey, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany and Dr. Sushma Dubey, Head- Department of Biotechnology. The workshop concluded by a ceremonial valedictory function. The
Valedictory Function was graced by Dr. Swetlana, Assistant Professor, Govt. Mata Karma College, Mahasamund, Vice-Chancellor, Kalinga University- Dr. R. Shridhar,  Director General- Dr. Byju John, Deans and Heads of various departments and participants from Govt. Mata Karma College Mahasamund.

This workshop was successful in extending basic knowledge of advanced instruments, its capabilities and limitations, including sessions on theoretical elements followed by sessions of demonstration. The participants received an insight on a variety of sophisticated instruments of CIF and its applications. The tailoring of the format and content of the workshop helped the participants to understand the challenges of instrumental procedures, specimen preparation, data collection and quantification. The CIF of Kalinga University that houses many sophisticated analytical instruments are operated and maintained by a dedicated and qualified group of Professors, Scientists and Engineers under the able leadership of Dean- Research of the University.
