Bhopal (Thestates.news)  Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has said that it is necessary to think and discuss topics like modernization of libraries, automation, networking, digitalization, green libraries, and the importance of libraries in the new national education policy. This will pave the way for the modernization of libraries and maintaining their usefulness in the contemporary education system. In the changing environment, libraries should continue to play the role of source of knowledge in the society due to information technology, for which we all must make libraries an integral part of the society. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav was addressing the inaugural session of the two-day international conference organized by Vikram University, Ujjain on the topic “Role and Challenges of Library in the Changing Educational and Social Environment” virtually from Mantralaya.

Banks preserve money and libraries preserve and disseminate knowledge

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the library is a great asset of human history. Libraries preserve, promote, and disseminate knowledge in the same way as banks play the role of preserving and promoting the wealth of the society and nation. Libraries have had special importance in Indian history. The libraries of Nalanda, Vikramshila, and Takshashila were centers of learning and storehouses of knowledge, unfortunately, these great centers became the target of foreign invaders. Ujjain has been a confluence of religion, spirituality, and Gyan-Vigyan. Baba Mahakal is seated at the center point of time calculation and Sandipani Ashram of Ujjain was the Gurukul of Lord Shri Krishna and Balram. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the way research and study activities are going on, Ujjain will continue to make India proud by becoming the Greenwich of the future.

Vikram University Ujjain is the first university in the state to provide training in library science

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that Vikram University of Ujjain, established in the name of Emperor Vikramaditya, was the first university in the state to provide training in library science. The Scindia Oriental Research Institute of Ujjain is known for its vast and rare collection of manuscripts. Padmashri Dr. Ranganathan, the father of library science in India, has been the first visiting professor of this university. The credit for starting library science education in Madhya Pradesh goes to Dr. Ranganathan. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav congratulated all the subject experts, students, etc. participating in the seminar.
