NMDC celebrates Gandhi Jayanti campaigning for Swachhta 2.0

Hyderabad, (thestates.news): India’s largest producer of iron ore, NMDC celebrated Gandhi Jayanti
launching the Swachhta 2.0 campaign at its Head Office and Projects today. This year’s Gandhi Jayanti
marks the 8th year of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan with the Government of India celebrating a United India for
Swachhata, as part of the ongoing Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. Company’s Director (Production) Shri Dilip
Kumar Mohanty and CVO Shri B.Vishwanath, IRSS inaugurated the programme and led the Cleanliness
Drive of NMDC.
Chief Guest for the event, Shri D.K. Mohanty administered the Swachhata Shapath to NMDC employees.
He highlighted the four principles of Mahatma Gandhi – Non-violence; Cleanliness; Self-reliance;
Humanity, Equality and Togetherness and said “We must uphold these principles to build a strong NMDC
and a strong Bharat”.
“To honour Gandhiji’s vision of Independent India, we must emulate his values and devote ourselves to
Nation Building. NMDC will avidly take part in the Ministry of Steel’s special campaign for disposal of
pending matters” said Shri B. Vishwanath.
NMDC organized a Plog Run to clean GHMC Sports Complex at Vijayanagar Colony, Hyderabad and
distributed NMDC Swachhata Caps to young sportspersons. The company also conducted Fit India
Freedom Runs and Plog Runs at its Projects with a theme of “Azadi ke 75 saal, Fitness rahe bemisaal” to
mark Gandhi Jayanti and Swachhata 2.0.
Commenting on the occasion, Shri Sumit Deb, CMD, NMDC said, “India is celebrating the birth and life
of the Father of our Nation with the coming together of Swachhta and Swastha in Swachh Bharat and Fit
India Movements. NMDC has chalked out a month-long campaign and calls for Jan Bhagidari. The
relevance of this campaign as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi finds greater significance with the ongoing
Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.”
Honouring Mahatma Gandhi’s vision for a Clean and Green India, NMDC is participating in the Swachhata
2.0 campaign from October 2 – 31, 2022. The mining major has planned large-scale Swachhata, Plantation
and Awareness drives, Prabhat Pheri and competitions to celebrate the National Cleanliness Movement.
