Chennai, (thestates.news)| At the general council meeting of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) in Vanagaram, Edappadi K. Palaniswami was on Monday elected interim general secretary of the party.The General Council has passed a resolution to ensure the election of one person to the post through primary members, in addition to reinstating the post of Secretary-General. The election will be held in four months.
It is reported that Panneerselvam supporters broke open the door of the AIADMK office ahead of the General Council meeting of the party led by Palaniswami. There has been an uproar over this for some time.In the context of this meeting, AIADMK leader and former minister Natham R. Viswanathan had said on July 3 that the old post of General Secretary would be revived in the General Council meeting to be held on July 11, and Palaniswami is sure to be elected to this highest post. Former minister Viswanathan had said that during the time of party founder MG Ramachandran and his successor, the late J Jayalalithaa, the general secretary had full powers.(HS):
