PM Modi on one-day visit to Maharashtra on June 14

New Delhi(thestates.news)|  12 June  Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a day’s visit to Maharashtra on June 14. He will inaugurate Jagatguru Shrisant Tukaram Maharaj Temple in Pune and Jal Bhushan Building and Gallery of Revolutionaries at Raj Bhawan in Mumbai. He will also participate in the Dwishatabdi Mahotsav of Mumbai Samachar, a Gujarati daily. Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Sunday said that Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate Tukaram temple in Dehu, Pune at around 1:45 pm.

Sant Tukaram was a Varkari (pilgrim) saint and poet who lived in Dehu. A rock temple was built after his death, but it was not formally consecrated as a temple. It is built in stone masonry with 36 peaks and also houses an idol of Saint Tukaram. The PM will inaugurate Jal Bhushan Building and Gallery of Revolutionaries at Raj Bhawan in Mumbai at around 4:15 pm. Jal Bhushan has been the official residence of the Governor of Maharashtra since 1885. On completion of its life it was demolished and a new building was approved in its place. The foundation stone of the new building was laid by the President in August, 2019. All the distinctive features of the old building have been preserved in the newly constructed building.

In 2016, Vidyasagar Rao, the then Governor of Maharashtra, found a bunker in the Raj Bhavan. It was earlier used by the British as a secret storage of arms and ammunition. The bunker was renovated in 2019. The gallery has been developed as a one of its kind museum in the bunker to commemorate the contribution of the freedom fighters and revolutionaries of Maharashtra. It pays tribute to the contributions of Vasudev Balwant Phadke, Chapekar brothers, Savarkar brothers, Madam Bhikaji Cama, VB Goget, Naval Revolution in 1946 and others.

After this, at around 6 pm, the Prime Minister will attend the 200th anniversary celebrations of Gujarati daily Mumbai Samachar at Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai. The printing of Mumbai Samachar as a weekly was started by Fardunji Marjabanji on July 1, 1822. It later became a daily in 1832. The newspaper has been published continuously for 200 years. A postage stamp will also be released on the occasion to commemorate this unique achievement.(HS):
