Chief Minister flags off 10 de-sludge vehicles: Handed over its keys to Sarpanchs and Secretaries

Raipur  (thestates.news) | The vision behind Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Mission, launched in 2014, is now becoming a reality in Chhattisgarh. There is widespread awareness about cleanliness, and toilets have been constructed in millions of households.

Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai flagged off 10 de-sludge vehicles from his residence premises on Saturday with the aim of strengthening the sanitation system and increasing cleanliness in rural areas. Shri Sai said, “This success is attributed to the vision and determination of Prime Minister Modi. His goal of a clean and developed nation is also embraced by the people of Chhattisgarh. The state is swiftly progressing towards becoming an ODF Plus model state, achieving new milestones every day. This is not just a goal, but a lifestyle of cleanliness that will drive both local and national development.”

So far, 5 districts, 58 development blocks, and over 16,000 villages in Chhattisgarh have achieved the ODF Plus status. Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai made this statement while flagging off 10 de-sludge vehicles from his residence, aimed at strengthening the sanitation system and enhancing cleanliness efforts.

On this occasion Chief Minister Shri Sai handed over the keys and documents of de-sludge vehicles to the Sarpanch and Secretaries of Gram Panchayats of 10 different districts of the state. These vehicles will be used to remove faeces from houses in villages and dispose it off safely.

On this occasion, Chief Minister Shri Sai said that this initiative will prove to be a big step towards cleanliness and health improvement. This will help curb diseases spreading due to dirt in rural areas. He also appealed to the public for cooperation in maintaining cleanliness. Chief Minister Shri Sai said that to promote cleanliness, fecal sludge treatment plants are also being set up in the state, which will strengthen faecal-urine management and will also help in environmental protection. Under this new initiative, the state government is committed to make cleanliness campaigns more effective.

The role of Sarpanch is important in the development of the village, Chief Minister shared his experience

Underlining the significance of Sarpanch Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai said that the role of Sarpanch is most important in the development of the village. “I began as a Panch, and due to my good work, I was later elected unopposed as Sarpanch. There is only one reason for saying this that Gram Panchayat is the most primary link of development and if Panch and Sarpanch are aware of their rights and responsibilities, then it will not take time to change the picture of the village,” said Shri Sai.

Addressing the program, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma said that the state government is constantly trying to implement cleanliness on a wide scale. People living in rural areas will get benefit from the availability of de-sludge vehicles. He also expressed his views on the need and utility of de-sludge vehicles.

Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural) is an important program of the government and Chhattisgarh has always been a leader in cleanliness programs. In Phase 1 of the Mission, the state created a record of being an open defecation free state by achieving the national target ahead of time by constructing more than 32 lakh toilets. In the phase-2 of the mission, in order to establish itself as an ODF Plus model state, 57 development blocks of 5 districts of the state, namely Durg, Kabirdham, Mohla-Manpur-Ambagadh Chowki, Janjgir-Champa and Dhamtari district and more than 16,000 villages have become ODF Plus models. In this series, with the aim of proper disposal of faeces coming out of toilets, faecal sludge treatment plants are being constructed in all the districts of the state. In these faecal sludge treatment plants, faeces coming out of septic tanks of nearby villages will be treated. When the septic tank is filled, the concerned family or institution will contact these plants and call for a de-sludge vehicle to empty the tank, for which appropriate consumer charges will be determined on the basis of distance. At present, 19 faecal sludge treatment plants have been constructed in the state.

Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai handed over de-sludge Vehicle to Village Panchayat Birkoni District Mahasamund, Village Panchayat Temri District Raipur, Village Panchayat Sarangpur Kala District Kabirdham, Village Panchayat Gamhariya District Jashpur, Village Panchayat Kotri District Sarangarh-Bilaigarh, Village Panchayat Lagra District Janjgir-Champa, Village Panchayat Parsada Ved District Bilaspur, Village Panchayat Ruda District Balod, Village Panchayat Jhajhpuri Kala District Mungeli, Village Panchayat Patharia District Durg.
