Sensex ends firm at 60,392.77 pts

Mumbai (thestates.news) | The equity market kept its supremacy for the eighth straight session on Wednesday, as the BSE sensex rallied 235.05 pts to close at 60,392.77 on the strength of Health Care, IT, Auto and Consumer Discretionary stocks. The Nifty of National Stock Exchange too gained 90.10 pts at 17,812.40.The sensex opened on a flat note at 60,180.20. During the day, it was surged 280 pts at 60,437.64, days high, before closing at 60,392.77, up by 235.05 pts from its previous close.

The Nifty recorded days high and low at 17,825.75 and 17,717.25 pts respectively.In sectoral indices, Health Care was on top, up 2.22 pc followed by IT by 1.04 pc, Auto by 0.88 pc and Consumer Discretionary Goods and Services by 0.74 pc.The Mid Cap moved up by 0.57 pc and Small Cap by 0.41 pc. In 30 scrips, 17 advanced while 13 declined.

In scrips, Infosys was a major gainer, spurted 1.48 pc to Rs 1427.90 followed by Tata Motors by 1.32 pc to Rs 464.60, HDFC Bank by 1.22 pc to Rs 1684, Asian Paints by 1.17 pc to Rs 2786 and Tech Mahindra by 1.07 pc to Rs 1110.The losers were Powergrid by 1.58 pc to Rs 227.60, NTPC by 1.32 pc to Rs 175.70, Nestle India Ltd by 1.28 pc to Rs 19,420 and Ultracemco by 0.87 pc to Rs 7674.15.
However, the World stocks and bond yields were seen weak today as markets anticipated crucial U.S. inflation data which could give signals on how soon the Federal Reserve will finish its aggressive rate hikes.(UNI)
