New Delhi, ( thestates.news) : Public sector oil marketing companies have increased the price of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) by 16 per cent, which is bound to impact the airfares. This is the biggest increase in ATF since March 2022, when it reached a new record level. Meanwhile, SpiceJet Chairman Ajay Singh said a 10-15 per cent hike in airfares is now necessary. Singh said the domestic airlines were left with no option but to increase the airfares due to the hike in fuel prices.
Oil marketing companies on Thursday increased the price of jet fuel by 16 per cent. After this increase, the ATF price in the capital city of Delhi has increased to Rs 1,41,232 per kiloliter. Its price in Kolkata has increased to Rs 1,46,322 per kiloliter. Similarly, the price has gone up to Rs 1,40,092 per kiloliter in Mumbai and Rs 1,46,215 per kiloliter in Chennai. However, on June 1, the price of ATF was cut by 1.3 percent. It is noteworthy that the share of expenditure on ATF in aircraft operation is 40 percent.(HS)
