Supreme Court to hear Delhi Municipal Corporation elections today

New Delhi, (thestates.news)|The Supreme Court will today hear the petition of the Aam Aadmi Party for the early conduct of the Delhi Municipal Corporation elections. During the last hearing, the Center and the State Election Commission sought more time to file their replies. The court, while hearing the petition on July 20, issued notice to the Central Government and the Delhi State Election Commission. The Aam Aadmi Party says that the elections are being delayed in the name of the delimitation of seats in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. The election should not be postponed on this basis. Earlier, municipal elections in Delhi were held in April 2017. The North Delhi Municipal Corporation and South Delhi Municipal Corporation each had 104 wards, while the East Delhi Municipal Corporation had 64 wards. All three municipal corporations have been merged.(HS):
