Bhopal (thestates.news) | A two-day training programme on “Concrete Technology and Testing” was conducted at CSIR-Advanced Materials and Processes Research Institute (CSIR-AMPRI), Bhopal, on 22–23 September 2026 under the CSIR-Integrated Skill Initiative. The programme was attended by 21 students, researchers and faculty members from civil engineering backgrounds.
The programme aimed to provide participants with practical exposure to civil engineering laboratories and contemporary developments in concrete technology, material characterization and testing, including emerging sustainable construction technologies.
Er. Shiv Singh Patel, Scientist-D & Course Coordinator, CSIR-AMPRI, delivered lectures on cement, its different types, fundamentals of concrete, testing procedures, quality control, and IS codes. Er. Patel also introduced the participants to 3D concrete printing using both cement-based and cement-free geopolymeric materials during two day programme.
Dr. (Er.) Manish Mudgal, Scientist-G & Head, SCMD-CARS&GM, CSIR-AMPRI, delivered a lecture on fly-ash-based geopolymeric concrete and radiation-shielding concrete, highlighting the institute’s research and technological developments in advanced construction materials utilizing different industrial waste materials like fly-ash and Red-mud. Participants visited cement free fly ash based roller compacted geopolymeric road stretch at CSIR-AMPRI, Bhopal.
A major component of the programme was hands-on experimentation in the Concrete Technology domain in different laboratories of CSIR-AMPRI. The participants carried out experiments themselves under the supervision and guidance of CSIR scientists and technical team members, providing them with practical experience in concrete testing and laboratory practices. Participants also visited and witnessed research and development happening at Sustainable Construction Materials Division and Centre for Radiation Shielding and Geopolymeric Materials in domain of radiation shielding materials, heavy density aggregates, cement free concrete etc.(s-pib)
