Virat Kohli completes 24k runs in international cricket

Dubai,(thestates.news) : Star Indian batsman Virat Kohli on Thursday completed 24,000 runs in international cricket. Virat achieved this feat during the match against Afghanistan in the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2022. Virat played an unbeaten 122 against Afghanistan in just 61 balls with the help of 12 fours and six sixes. This is the 71st century of Kohli’s international career. Now, Kohli has 24,002 runs in 522 innings of 468 international matches across all formats. He has scored 71 centuries and 124 half-centuries so far. His best score is 254 not out.

He is the seventh highest run scorer in the history of international cricket. The top five run-scorers in cricket history are Sachin Tendulkar (34,357), Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara (28,016), Australian great Ricky Ponting (27,483), Sri Lankan Mahela Jayawardene (25,957) and South African great Jacques Kallis (25,534). Talking about the match, batting first after losing the toss in this match, the Indian team scored 212 runs for 2 wickets in 20 overs. Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 122 and caretaker captain KL Rahul scored 62 runs. Apart from these two, Rishabh Pant scored 20 not out. Farid Ahmed took both the wickets for Afghanistan.

In reply, Afghanistan’s team could only manage 111 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs. Ibrahim Zadran scored 64 not out for Afghanistan. Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 5 wickets for India, while Arshdeep Singh, Ravichandran Ashwin and Deepak Hooda took 1-1. (HS)
