Raipur (thestates.news) Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital and Research Centre (JLNH & RC), the flagship hospital of Bhilai Steel Plant, observed World Mental Health Day 2025 on Friday with a poster exhibition and awareness programme at its Outpatient Department Complex. The event, organised by the Department of Psychiatry, sought to underline the importance of mental health across all sections of society and to encourage practices that promote positive mental well-being.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Vineeta Dwivedi, Chief Medical Officer In-charge (Medical and Health Services), along with Chief Medical Officers Dr. Kaushlandra Thakur and Dr. Uday Kumar. Senior doctors, officials, nursing staff, students, patients, and visitors joined the observance, making it an inclusive awareness initiative.
Highlighting this year’s theme “Access to Services: Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies,” Psychiatrist Dr. Amit Nayak spoke about the critical need for ensuring the availability of mental health services during disasters and crisis situations.

In her address, Dr. Vineeta Dwivedi drew attention to the growing concerns of adolescent mental health and screen addiction. She described these as pressing challenges of the present generation and advocated yoga, meditation, and creative pursuits as effective measures to sustain mental resilience.
The event featured a series of compelling presentations. Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Nursing students staged a skit portraying the psychological impact of disasters, while Master of Science (M.Sc.) Nursing students delivered a thought-provoking performance on substance abuse and its harmful consequences.
The exhibition and interactive sessions provided participants with insights into the causes, symptoms, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of mental health conditions. Emphasis was also placed on the role of a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle in safeguarding mental well-being.
The proceedings were conducted by Assistant Manager (Medical and Health Services) Smt. Lata Mishra, while Psychiatrist Dr. Rahul Rajeev proposed the vote of thanks.
World Mental Health Day is observed annually on 10 October. First initiated in 1992 by the World Federation for Mental Health, it aims to raise global awareness of mental health issues, reduce stigma, and promote access to services and education so that mental health support reaches every segment of society.
