Tribal Theatre from Sukma Steals the Spotlight
Theatrical Performance Based on the Mudiya Tribe staged

Raipur (thestates.news) |At the magnificent event of divisional-level Bastar Pandum 2026, Sukma district emerged as a standout performer. Held at Lal Bagh Ground in Jagdalpur, this prestigious event witnessed the tribal theatre group from Sukma clinch the first prize for their outstanding performance.
Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah and Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai honoured the artists from Sukma with a memento and a cheque of Rs 50,000 in recognition of their exceptional artistic excellence.
A Unique Initiative for Cultural Preservation
Organised under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, the primary objective of the programme was to conserve the original forms of Bastar’s traditional dances, songs, cuisine, crafts and regional literature, while providing local artists with a prominent platform. This administrative initiative is not only breathing new life into art forms on the verge of extinction, but is also paving the way for the sustainable development of tribal communities.
Sukma Artists Secure Top Honours
Under the guidance of Collector Shri Amit Kumar and the efficient management of District CEO Shri Mukund Thakur, a total of 69 artists from Sukma district participated across 12 different art forms, showcasing the region’s rich creative legacy.
First Position:
The theatre team from the dependent village of Parla Gatta, under the remote Gram Panchayat Kondasawli of Konta Development Block, secured first place in the theatre category.
A Vivid Portrayal of Living Art
The 13-member troupe of the Muriya tribe, comprising 9 men and 4 women, captivated the audience through their artistic use of everyday objects such as palm leaves, peacock feathers, bows and arrows, and fishing nets, transforming simple materials into a powerful cultural narrative.
Artists Who Brought Pride to the District
Artists from Parla Gatta in Konta Development Block, including Lekam Lakka, Prakash Sodi, Vinod Sodi, Joga Sudam and their team, brought immense pride to Sukma district through their remarkable talent. The success of the artists was significantly supported by Nodal Officer Shri Maniram Markam and Shri P Srinivas Rao, whose dedicated efforts played a crucial role in mentoring, encouraging and guiding the performers to the divisional stage.V
