From Paddy to Sunflowers : Farmer Tejram reaps profits with crop diversification

Raipur (thestates.news) | For a long time, paddy cultivation dominated the agricultural landscape of  Chhattisgarh. However, with the inception of Rajiv Gandhi Kisan NYAY Yojana, introduced by Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel, farmers are being encouraged to cultivate crops other than paddy. Chhattisgarh Government is providing a subsidy of Rs 9,000 to Rs 10,000 per acre to farmers for the cultivation of these alternative crops.

This flagship scheme of the state government is being implemented to ensure that farmers receive fair prices for their produce. Over the past four years, farmers in the state have been provided with input subsidies amounting to Rs 18,208 crore. Besides, to enhance the well-being and bolster the economic situation of the state’s farmers, the government has decided to purchase 20 quintals of paddy per acre at support price.
