New Delhi, (thestates.news): More than 9,000 delegates from across the country are voting to elect Mallikarjun Kharge or Shashi Tharoor for the post of Congress president. During the election campaign, Shashi Tharoor has complained many times about not being given equal opportunity in elections.
After the counting of votes, the Congress will get a non-Gandhi president after nearly two and a half decades. For the elections, more than 65 polling stations have been set up across the country including the party headquarters in Delhi. The post of president is vacant due to the resignation of Rahul Gandhi after the party’s defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Jharkhand MLA KN Tripathi tried to make the contest triangular by filling up his nomination papers, but his nomination was rejected after scrutiny. The results are to be declared on Wednesday.(HS)
