Mild earthquake jolts Chhattisgarh

Raipur (thestates.news) : Earthquake tremors were felt in parts of Chhattisgarh at 5:28 am on Friday. Its effect was more in Chhinddand area near Gauge Dam-Rakaya. Its magnitude was 4.8 on the Richter scale. According to the National Centre for Seismology, its epicenter was 65 km from Ambikapur, 10 km below the ground. Its geographical latitudinal position was 23.33° North latitude and 82.58° East longitude. According to AM Bhatt, Senior Meteorologist, Ambikapur, there is a need to study the possible future geological distortion due to the frequency of frequent earthquakes in the Korea region over a period of about three months.

India has been hit by earthquakes 35 times between September 1-30. Earthquake tremors were felt maximum 7 times in Maharashtra, 4 times in Ladakh. The magnitude of the earthquake in Maharashtra ranged from 1.7 to 2.6. Tremors were felt- 2 in Arunachal Pradesh, 3 in Assam, 2 in Gujarat, 2 in Himachal, 3 in Jammu and Kashmir, 3 in Manipur, 1 in Meghalaya, 1 in Punjab, 1 in Rajasthan, 1 in Uttarakhand and thrice in Andaman.(HS)
