Raipur (thestates.news)|Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said that a national level Sickle Cell Research Center will be established in Chhattisgarh soon. Chief Minister made this announcement while inaugurating the new Sickle Cell Management Centers, which have been set up in medical colleges and district hospitals of the state. In a virtual program organized at his residence office here today, Chief Minister inaugurated the Sickle Cell Management Centers in 28 districts of the state.With the inauguration of these centeres, facilities of free of cost Sickle Cell examination, treatment and consultation are now available in 24 district hospitals, nine medical colleges and Sickle Cell Institute Chhattisgarh located in the capital city Raipur. Health Minister Mr. TS Singhdeo was also present in the program.
In his address to the program, CM Mr. Baghel said that sickle cell is a serious genetic disease and to save the future generations from this disease, it is extremely important to create public awareness. Early diagnosis of sickle cell patients with proper medical management and medications can reduce its physical side effects to a great extent and can also lead to a longer life span. Hence, it is important to make these facilities of treatment, medication and consultation easily accesible to the patiencts. Also, identification of the individuals with the genetic trait of sickle cell before their marriage and providing them the necessary counseling on the subject can help in preventing this disease to the future generations.
Health and Family Welfare Department has established Sickle Cell Management Centers to effectively combat the problem of sickle cell. These centers will be operated in all the medical college hospitals and all the district hospitals of the state. These centers will provide the facilities of sickle cell test and treatment, including the screening by salubrity test and confirmation by electrophoresis and new method point of care (CHB) test through hospital laboratory. Chief Minister expressed hope that these sickle cell management centers operating in medical colleges and district hospitals will prove to be beneficial for the sickle cell patients of the state.
